Bayfield Cruise 2010
| The quaint little town of Bayfield, Ontario welcomed the Mac Ray Yacht Club the last weekend in July. Although many of the first mates found the waters of Lake Huron a little unwelcoming on the trip north, the marina staff and fellow boaters more than made up for it. A casual weekend filled with friends, socializing, and good food sums up the trip. Even though arrival day was Friday, there were a few boaters who headed to Canada early stopping in Grand Bend, while others decided to head right for Bayfield to get a jump on visiting the shops and the pubs. On Friday evening, the group enjoyed docktails, pizza, and delicious appetizers and desserts. To add a bit of excitement to the night, all couples were challenged in a Canadian Trivia quiz. Joe and Kristen Pascuzzi proved to be most knowledgeable about our neighbors to the north, even outscoring a native Canadian who took the quiz. The evening continued with a bon fire, s’mores, and conversation. Breakfast provided by the Bayfield Berry Farm helped to brighten a dreary Saturday morning sky. The buffet included fresh blueberry French toast casserole, ham and cheese quiche, sausage, bacon, fresh fruit, and an assortment of rolls and croissants. After a hardy and leisurely breakfast, the club members were once again challenged with a game. Various items were placed in glass jars and members were asked to estimate the amount of crayons, marbles, or fruit loops in the jar. Terry Crockett, Ron DiDimenico, and Martin Kohl were the winning guessers. Saturday afternoon activities involved women shopping in town, men tinkering on boats, and kids riding on the fire truck. Later the entire group congregated for dinner at “The Docks” restaurant located at the marina. We enjoyed a fantastic meal and wonderful service. A special thank you is extended to the Crocketts and the DiDimenicos for buying everyone a round of drinks that evening. After dinner, we all headed back for the bon fire pits for more s’mores and socializing. In order to avoid any potential unfriendly seas on Sunday morning, an early continental breakfast was provided so boaters could get an early start for home or their next destinations. Some boaters headed for Mac Ray and some to other ports on Lake Huron. Your cruise captains, the Zimmermans and the Dickersons, would like to thank everyone for joining us on the Canadian shores of Lake Huron. |
