Christmas in Grand Bend, 2007

‘Twas the night before Grand Bend
and all through Mac Ray;
Fourteen boats were preparing
To cruise far away.

Lake Huron was calm,
The day was quite sunny;
As we headed to Canada
With our American money.

The theme for this cruise
Was “Christmas in July!”
It was all just for fun,
No particular reason why.

Docktails were shared
Along with Holiday Cheer;
On this fine “Christmas Eve,”
When we ate on the pier.

Later we nestled
all snug in our berths,
With visions of new boats,
More LOA, more beam, more girth!

When out on the dock
In the morn we discovered,
A great “BOOM” took the town’s power,
And we all gave a shudder.

Our Cap’n Morgan breakfast
Was now in great doubt,
But our generators saved the day;
Sticky buns and rum sauce won out.

As noon rolled around,
A dinghy ride was the plan;
As we cruised up the river
Where the scenery was grand.

By afternoon, surf was up.
The beach beckoned us all.
We played many beach games
And we all had a ball.
In town there was shopping
And places to go.
But no one got pierced or tattooed
(As far as we know!)

As the sun began to set,
It was time for Christmas dinner…
With ham, turkey and stuffing
It was a winner!

Each crew provided
a holiday dish,
like cranberries, or mashed potatoes;
They all were delish!

When what to our wondering eyes
should appear,
Santa arrived!
Even though it’s mid-year!

He was dressed all in fur
From his head to his waist;
Below that, a swim suit and fins,
(All in good taste.)

Each child got a gift,
Which filled them with glee;
And he gave a cruise ornament
To each boat, for their tree!

After Santa was gone
And dinner was done;
We exchanged silly presents
And all had good fun!

As the skies darkened,
Our boats became bright;
With stockings, decorations, and
Lots of twinkling lights.

On Sunday morning, we exclaimed
As we pulled from our slip,
“Merry Christmas to all!
This was a great trip!”

Thank you everyone!
