First Mate Class, 2007

Thanks to Al Kroll for organizing a great class for the first mates of the club. Many people attended and had a great time. While the first mates were off learning how to dock a boat, the captains entertained themselves with food, football, and beer (thanks to Tim Dowd for providing the beer). The tailgate portion if the day was provided by Mac Ray Yacht Club.

All the ladies received a certificate and a nice bag from Tiara.

Many thanks to the sponsors of the event with special thanks to Rob McCarthy for arranging the whole gig for Lakeside and Tiara.

Lakeside Marine has been putting on first mates captaining courses for several years at the Tiara Rendezvous’. Rob McCarthy the General Manager of the Michigan Showroom and Al had discussions about having an event for the yacht club. He agreed and the event was proposed to the board and the general membership at the wine and cheese festival where people signed up.

Originally, 25 ladies signed up for the day. In the end we trained 22 of our first mates in 5 sessions. Capt. Bob Runner was the instructor aboard a Tiara 29 open, Capt. Bob is out of the Ohio office. Doug Glendening and John Maxwell assisted; they are both in sales at the Michigan Showroom.
