Karaoke Party, 2008

The weather may have dampened the turnout, but certainly not the spirits (or high notes) at the MacRay Yacht Club Karaoke Party last Saturday. It rained all day and all night, but under the cover of the Member Event Room the weather was just fine inside.

Getting the party under way, Terry Crockatt designed a game that she was sure would take all night to play out, but sure enough we had four winners in a matter of minutes. Well, the sparse crowd was all winners as Terry put on her usual fabulous event. There was pizza (lots of pizza) and salad, followed by some great deserts brought by various members. Everyone ate, ate, ate some more, drank, and sang the night away.

We had tunes belted out by Sonny & Cher (Tim and Gina), Barry Manilow (the McWilliams), the Beatles (Ron), and Roy Orbison (Clif), whose haircut looked eerily similar to Sonny’s. We also heard from Carly Simon (Robin, who is so vain?). Aretha Franklin (Rich) gave a rousing rendition of ‘Respect’, even hitting a few octaves above ‘her’ normal range, courtesy of some helium. And a big thank you to all those back up singers including Wendy, Patty, Candy, Michelle, Terry, Diane, Cyndi, and Brenda, among others.

Moss tried to get a few of the singers “gonged”, but the crowd laughed and begged for more. Way too much fun for a dreary rainy day.
