The Great Raft Off 2007

The 2nd Annual MRYC Raft-Off took place on Saturday September 1st under beautiful blue skies, calm waters and summer-hot weather. Twenty-plus boats hooked up together just off the MacRay Harbor channel starting at noon and enjoyed what most would say was one of the best days of the boating season.

With the MRYC Banner flying proudly from Pit Stop II, members were able to walk in the 3 ˝ feet of water, where there was there was plenty of fun to go around!

Everyone was walking and mingling from boat to boat, where there was food and drink, some impromptu dancing, and the chance to share the swim platform with fellow members to enjoy the day. There were jet ski rides, games of catch, kite flying (oops, ‘lost at sea’), and lots of swimming in the warm water.

Oh, and of course the water fights! Once someone (Martin) instigated the first salvo, it seemed like the entire club pulled out their water guns and let it rip. The kids got into the act as well, and everyone had a good laugh when they weren’t swallowing water.

The original plan was to break off the raft about 5:00, but the day was just too darn nice, so we ended up staying out front until after 6:00. With the boats safely back at the slips, the crowd gathered under the MRYC tents for dinner in the parking lot near the Harbor Store.

With Steve and Gerry manning the grill, members feasted on hot dogs and corn on the cob, along with all the dishes everyone brought to pass. After dinner, there was ice cream for desert, (as well as some in the blender - a true ‘hummer’ of a time). Everyone reflected how great this event was, and many made plans to head back out the next day, taking advantage of the fantastic holiday weekend.

Wow – what a great time!
